sunday afternoon, i had the sudden urge to discover something new. after driving about 15 minutes outside of the city, i arrived at the sweetwater creek state park in douglas county. there is so much history starting from the cherokee indians to the civil war, a real treat for the historian in me.

i hope that this inspires you to find something new and to be an explorer, even if it means uncovering it in your own backyard.

westview cemetery
is one the most overlooked wonders of atlanta. established in 1884, westview is home to many well known southerners like asa candler and henry grady. the grounds are huge, still with undeveloped acres of land. the mausoleum, the south's most famous shrine, was built in 1943. dark hallways are lit by sunlight peering through stained glass windows depicting the life of christ. the abbey is so very rich in splendor, like nothing i have ever seen before.

not as romantic as the victorian oakland cemetery, but definitely a must see.

i was driving home the other morning and noticed this little lake that i pass by everytime i'm in that neighborhood. i pulled over and marveled in it's autumn beauty. it is amazing how there are so many beautiful things out there that we fail to notice. right under our noses.

this has inspired me to finally pick up keri smith's how to be an explorer of the world, to exercise creativity and mindfulness.

halloween is my favorite holiday of all time! for the past two years, i dressed as lydia deetz. i decided my main costume this year would be the dark version of minnie mouse. my sister and i went down to the historic oakland cemetery to do some halloween portraits. they came out exactly like i wished. view my session here.

i assisted my sister on a sunday afternoon excursion with lizzy and dusty. its been a while since i actually used my camera for an entire day so this was a real treat. they were easy going as usual which made it a piece of cake. we started at the nolan house in bostwick (where we eventually got booted out of for the first time!) and then finished up in downtown madison. view their session here.

summer's end is drawing near and the cool, autumn breeze is sneaking its way into our lives here in the south. i will miss the daylight sun but i wont miss the heat, for a while at least. what will you do to finish off the season?

enjoy your summer weekend.

anyone have 1.3 million they can lend me so that i can acquire this property and the one next door? there's a zoning review board being held on thursday for this building, so we have to act fast! i've loved this place for quite some time.

oh the endless possibilities that i'd do with it if it were mine.

taking a post break from california ones, i haven't forgotten about the south at all! i took this dreamy photo while walking through beautiful inman park one sunday evening. just around the corner is springvale park, a pet project of area developer joel hurt. the park was designed by the olmsted brothers who also worked on new york city's central park. inman park is one of the neighborhoods i'd love to have a georgia home in.

i love the moods in this photograph.

i had quite the unsuccessful saturday for missing out on local natives, not once but twice. first i missed their in-store event at criminal records that i did not know about, but i made it there just in time for a quick photo. lastly, their show was sold out at the masquerade when i walked up to the ticket counter. yes, the one that i've been talking about for months. so i made up for it with a sunday funday in rutledge, georgia. windows down, jamming to gorilla manor.

this is one of my favorite photos from today,
taken with a pentax k1000.

who said waffle house was only good at 3am? but i'm southern and i love buttery goodness anytime of the day, so maybe its just me. wednesday was jackson and taylor's very first visit to waffle house. of course, jackson requested that he have pancakes and he got them too. they didn't do a very good job on them, they should stick to what they know ;) do you have a favorite off the menu? i always get the "2 eggs" with cheese grits.

it must be a real travesty in those parts of the world that aren't acquainted with the goodness that is sweet tea. i certainly can't do without.

have a wonderful weekend <3

built in 1906, the nolan house is a greek revival plantation home located in bostwick right outside of madison, georgia. the nolan family store also sits across the street boarded up. although the mansion has an owner, it has been abandoned for some time. its such a shame to see a beautiful home go to waste. read more about it here. i was a bit afraid to explore the entire interior of the home, so i sent my brother and kris inside with the camera on my behalf. i mean, why wouldn't i be scared? it's a gorgeous home but its literally sitting on bricks! absolutely breath taking though and worth the second trip.

returning to madison today for adventuring. i really am excited because i feel like i didn't get enough the first time around.

have a beautiful weekend.

remember the list of things that i made that i thought i should do? i started the "get lost in georgia" one this weekend and began my southern antebellum trail in madison, georgia. i stopped at j&k fleas an'tiques on w. jefferson street while visiting this small beautiful town. j&k has an amazing amount of estate finds with reasonably low prices. i found this music sheet for 15$ and an old photograph and postcard for 1$ each that i'll be framing at some point. madison has over 160 antique vendors, and i spent about two hours at this one place alone. definitely making another trip this weekend.

i definitely failed to mention that these photos were taken with a canon ae-1
a sweet birthday present from a sweet person :)

is it seriously july, already?

we went to savannah on a whim thursday night to catch the friday morning sunrise. after developing the two rolls, i can't say i was satisfied with most of the results. the first came out alright, i knew i've been sucking as of late. but what really got under my skin was the second roll. i probably captured theary at her best for my capricorn portraits. she is terrible at posing for photos, but she managed to do a really good job that morning. well to my disappointment, that roll had been previously used and were all double exposed with someone else's tacky photos. the horror! i absolutely have to get these done again.

and that is why we are going again in a few hours.
the dedication and drive..

savannah was very hot and sticky, but just as gorgeous as it always is. it used to be a family tradition to go once a year. after a solid 4 year hiatus, i was very pleased to return. sokai had some extra b&w film that i used and they turned out so great. i must admit, this set is probably the most darkest, eeriest photos i've taken by far. the city is just so hauntingly beautiful.. i can't resist it. i'm pretty sure you all think i'm weird by now. as if these photos would make you change your mind. but i hope you like them all the same.

we took a roadtrip on sunday to memphis, one of many cities on my "places to see" list. i haven't left the state of georgia in about, exactly a year. so the short visit was very, very much needed. we started our film stroll on beale street and met with a friend from the city, who volunteered to be a guide. to our surprise, he pointed out that we were only walking distance from the lorraine hotel- where martin luther king jr. drew his last breath. although we didn't get the chance to walk inside, it was still a very intense experience standing there.

i already miss little ol' memphis. such a charming place.
