this series of double exposed photographs is a rendition to one of my favorite films of all time- tim burton's marvelous adaptation of daniel wallace's novel "big fish." i was rummaging through my unshared film archives and realized i haven't touched this project since early january. with all of the subjects being so hard to get a hold of, it would be almost impossible to continue with it. so i figured i should just share it just as it is.

"now which one's it gonna be? monkey in the barn? or dog in the road?"

the beautiful thing about vintage finds to me are the stories that they leave behind. denise found these bruno magli gems in a pretty little row of vintage shoes at ahab bowen. she also found out that they were purchased from the daughter of a flight attendant- who wore these shoes on the job. these shoes have been all over the place! i knew instantly that i had to grab them for her. after wards, we went back to the condo, threw on her mother-in-law's old dress from the 50s and took these pictures at sunset. gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

everytime i vacation in another city, thrift stores is always a must. ahab bowen (named after the farmer who lived in this historical building) in uptown dallas is probably the most impressive one i've been to. the vintage collection is absolutely immaculate. not only do they make items easy to find and price them reasonably, but they clean, press and steam everything there. sadly, they will be closing the store at the end of july and moving down to an antique mall.

its been forever i know, but i had to put my creativity on hold because quite frankly.. i sort of lost it over the past few months. i went to dallas last weekend in hopes of finding inspiration with a camera in hand.. and i did. i'm a little rusty but nothing practice can't fix :)

i was asked by omar ferrer to do some photos for his band, jack of hearts. i was really excited after discussing and sharing ideas because our visions and inspirations were pretty much on the same wavelength. last week, theary and i spent the entire day with them photographing in inman park and at a mansion belonging to the candler family. these are just a few out of 200+ images we captured. well dressed and beautiful people in a grandeur setting.. need i express any more on how easy they made this day for us? and those little acoustic sessions that they squeezed in between shots didn't hurt either.

they are playing the merge at the soundtable this thursday with clan destined. i think you should definitely come.

spent the weekend with loved ones and friends including my really great friend alicia. we met at work, lived together and a few years ago, she took off to brooklyn to chase her dreams. she is doing great things for herself and i am happy for her. but there are times like these when i wish i could just stick her in my pocket.

i miss having a good gal friend around.

spring time is coming really soon, i can feel it in the air. i am always mused by all things french this time of the year. this month's mix pays tribute to french yé-yé, a musical movement led by mostly female singers. jacqueline taïeb was my first discovery in yé-yé; this cover of nights in white satin by patricia is probably my most latest and favorite find. if i could do high school all over again, i would have taken my french classes more seriously. i should probably pick up some lessons this year.

this month's mix is a compilation of my favorite oldies and lowrider classics put together with love. initially i wanted to share this for the month of february. due to popular demand from some of my great friends, i figured why not share it now? these songs are reminiscent of three summers ago spent with the wish crew and last minute trips to the west coast. i don't know about you, but i'm absolutely over winter. so use your imagination and enjoy this with your windows rolled down and the heat on blast ;) remain optimistic, we're getting closer to warmer weather any day now.

lately, i've been finding comfort in the kitchen. i'm constantly trying to find new things to create. out of curiosity, i picked up two lamb loin chops at the grocery. i've had pretty great lamb dishes on my eating excursions, but never cooked it myself. i asked for recipes from fellow foodies and received two pretty easy suggestions. now, i'm no food stylist but i really tried to make these photographs look pretty. if the little lambs don't do them justice, take my word for it: they were delicious.

this little chop was rubbed with a tablespoon each of curry powder and cumin, a teaspoon of chilli powder, salt and pepper then seared with olive oil and garlic. i grilled them on both sides for about 3 to 4 minutes each and served with plain greek yogurt and fresh mint. what a mouthful of flavor! the spices combined delivered quite a warm quick, the yogurt cooled it down and the mint swiped the palate clean only to prepare me for the next bite. curry flavors never disappoint me, yum. this recipe was courtesy of chef jamie wolff.

renaissance mommy-to-be, tara christensen suggested a very simple recipe with just garlic, olive oil, rosemary, salt and pepper. i grilled it the same way and served it with rice and sriracha (because i cannot live without it) the rosemary was so aromatic and woodsy, it left enough room to enjoy the tenderness of the lamb. i have been on a rosemary craze as of late, so this was pleasant for me.

the battle of the lambs has come to an end, and it's a tie between the two, for me at least. i've actually cooked this 3 times and have done both of the recipes together. i can't decide! that is so typical of me i guess. now that i've conquered the lamb, i think i'll be on a duck mission next. any suggestions?

last sunday, we put together a birthday dinner for theary at our house. we cooked up some magic in the kitchen while our friends were in charge of bringing in the bottles. what an amazing time! nothing could've made her more thrilled than being in the comfort of our own home with the people that we cherished. and then the snow came tumbling down!

we also gave our lovely guests the liberty of playing photographers for the night with some disposable cameras. this is what they captured for us.

i hope that everyone's january has been positive and smooth so far. things have been really great on my end and i am extremely happy. i wish nothing but the same for everyone, if not better.

i'm currently working on another photo project, a rendition to one of my favorite films of all time. the entire project will be double/multiple exposed photographs. i haven't played around with my nikon fm10 and light is scarce during this time of the year. so this project has been quite the challenge. the image above was one of the first ones i attempted to portray.

i've also become a blog contributor for +F.i.A+ i blog music (which will be both old and new) on tuesdays and thursdays. this is really exciting because i now have an outlet for the music that i've been wanting to share. you can check out my first post here. i even take my capitalization rules seriously.

my "places to go" list seems to be growing out of control! i found more natural and historical sites that i plan on visiting in the south that i am pretty excited about. while those places are feasible, there are other far away cities that i would love to travel to as well next year. i'm positively sure that i will return to the the bay area and nyc but i've been falling in love with the idea of seeing portland for a while now. after favorite-ing so many beautiful photographs on flickr, i think i will seriously plan a summer trip there. for wishful thinking, i would really love to go to south australia. a few years ago, i wrote about my search for our long lost cousins in adelaide. thanks to facebook, we are connected now and they've given a lot of encouragement in visiting them down under. if given the opportunity, i would really appreciate another trip to cambodia. i've been missing my family and that beautiful country a lot lately.

i am obviously obsessed with wandering from place to place.

if you could choose a word to describe your year, what would it be? mine would be intuition.

i've always known that i was intuitive, i just didn't know how to trust it. i didn't know whether to accept it as a strength, so i saw it only as a weakness. i would get myself into situations when i knew what the outcome would be. i always hesitated when i knew it would be something good but when it was bad i didn't even think twice, i'd dive in head first. i kept setting myself up for a lot of heartache, trouble and loss. i was so afraid that if i didn't let myself experience it, then how would i ever really know? i've always been a private person, so i kept all of the perceptions i was having to myself. i figured the less i spoke about them, the more i could hear them. that didn't work out very well. until recently, i taught myself to be more outspoken. i would say them aloud just so someone else would be a witness to my thoughts. that didn't work out very well either, because i suckered myself into it anyway.

i was always letting myself go only to watch it unravel before my eyes. as predicted, everything always transpired exactly as i imagined it would. i allowed all of these terrible things happen to me. and of course, i'd proceed to beat myself up over it because i should have listened to my intuition. i never did. i came to the conclusion that i was afraid of being wrong and afraid of controlling the situation. i just didn't trust myself and with that came the disability to trust in others. i created a mess for myself, all because i wouldn't follow my instincts.

forward from here, i will create or find a sanctuary to meditate. i will teach myself to quiet the inner dialogue in my head and listen to the blank space behind it. i will write down my dreams and everything that comes to my mind, no matter how outlandish it seems. i will question myself more positively. with this exercise i trust that i will find inner balance, have a clearer conscious and develop healthier decisions and relationships. this will be an art in itself.

i will also learn how to develop my own film.

its so strange how photography has a way of reflecting you as a person. through the things that you photograph and the way you go about doing so- you see the constant growth in yourself. looking back on the photographs that i've taken, i noticed that i approached them very differently this year. while in 2009 i worked on a lot of portrait projects, this year was more of a documentation of my adventures. and in looking through this year's memories, i was constantly searching for beauty. be it through traveling, meeting new and old faces, going on little scavenger hunts or eating my heart out, one thing is for sure- i found it everywhere.

in choosing my favorite album of the year, i still stand by my august post on future island's in evening air. other albums that made the list are new young pony club's the optimist and warpaint's the fool. it may not be considered for 2010, but my recent discovery of weimar gesang's discography from the 80s is my favorite find this year.

i discovered taco chulo in williamsburg with my gals during my last winter visit to new york. the nachos left a really great impression on me, so it was imperative that i would get dinner there while i was in town. this is a brooklyn favorite of mine.

the talented gentlemen over at street local finally have their site back up and running. they've also shared the photographs i worked with nene on for their vintage lookbook here. i almost forgot how much i loved working on them. looking back at the film always reminds me of the admiration i have for the men over at street local. i really respect their compassion for honest and good work. i'm pretty sure they've got a lot of great things up their sleeves as usual.

sunday afternoon, i had the sudden urge to discover something new. after driving about 15 minutes outside of the city, i arrived at the sweetwater creek state park in douglas county. there is so much history starting from the cherokee indians to the civil war, a real treat for the historian in me.

i hope that this inspires you to find something new and to be an explorer, even if it means uncovering it in your own backyard.

on our last night in nebraska, i finally met my sisters good friend jamie wolff, who writes yummy reviews of dishes over on her curry and ice wine blog. what else would bring us together than.. food? we left the decision up to her so she chose ramo's pizza & pub on normal and 48th in lincoln for our dinner. despite the limitations of anything being opened late on a sunday night, jamie made an excellent choice. we ordered the pepperoni and cream cheese & the bbq beef brisket pizza. they sound very heavy, but were absolutely enjoyable. i normally eat just three slices, but i was five in (even with a glass of boulevard wheat!) which says a lot.

mr. toad's is a small and intimate bar much different than the others on the main drag in the old market. "the gentlemen's english pub" is lined with leather bound books and a grand piano in one corner. it was a nice place for my sister and i to go out for girl talk and drinks, especially on a cornhusker game night. more my speed.

i caught avi buffalo playing a show at the slowdown the night i arrived in nebraska. located in north downtown omaha, the slowdown neighbors film streams, urban outfitters and blue line coffee (to name a few) it's a cute little hipster haven that reminded me of space 15 twenty in los angeles. the venue opened its doors in 2007, created by the founders of indie music label saddle creek records. they do a handful of shows during the week but are also opened monday through saturday nights with plenty of fun things to get into (board games, a photobooth, pool table and not to mention.. a colossal bathroom that puts atlanta music venues to shame!)

there is so much that i want to say about my visit to the nelson-atkins museum of art in kansas city. but words cannot express in volumes how wondrous it was. my time there was brief so i don't have much but the photographs of things that absolutely stopped me in my tracks. i hope to visit again soon before the end of the year.

my brother paul and i had a monday off and spent it venturing around town. we got a little famished and made a stop in woodruff park to eat some street vendory. that is where we can into streatery- a new hot dog vendor typically found in the downtown atlanta area. everything sounded appealing but we settled for two polish sausages. the nice gentleman working at the time was very helpful in picking our topics: coleslaw, sauteed onions and hot mustard. so glad we worked up an appetite.

westview cemetery is one the most overlooked wonders of atlanta. established in 1884, westview is home to many well known southerners like asa candler and henry grady. the grounds are huge, still with undeveloped acres of land. the mausoleum, the south's most famous shrine, was built in 1943. dark hallways are lit by sunlight peering through stained glass windows depicting the life of christ. the abbey is so very rich in splendor, like nothing i have ever seen before.

not as romantic as the victorian oakland cemetery, but definitely a must see.

tomorrow morning, i will be boarding a flight to kansas city, missouri. depending on how things pan out, i will either be wandering kc all day or driving to nebraska. i will then spend a day in omaha and trek across the great midwest back to atlanta. time away from home never fails to ease my soul- no matter how short or how long the trip. sometimes i have to nurture the wanderer in me.

october is national dessert month. what is your favorite dessert?

meet maggie- one half of westside creamery, one of atlanta's ever growing street food vendors. westside creamery serves hand-crafted ice cream and sorbets (with locally sourced produce) out of a re-purposed parcel delivery truck. after hearing so many fabulous raves about their frozen treats, i made the effort to truck it down to the little five points parade on saturday. with so many savory flavors like salted butter caramel and espresso, i had to choose the spiced pumpkin ice cream. it was absolute perfection.

westside creamery will be participating in tomorrow night's street food soiree at the hub atlanta! follow them on twitter to check on their where abouts. so much better than waiting to listen out for the ice cream truck huh?

i was driving home the other morning and noticed this little lake that i pass by everytime i'm in that neighborhood. i pulled over and marveled in it's autumn beauty. it is amazing how there are so many beautiful things out there that we fail to notice. right under our noses.

it's 13 nights until halloween! so i brewed up a mix of 13 songs that get me in the holiday spirit. everything in my itunes could pretty much fit into this halloween mix, so selecting tracks was a tough decision. i decided to create a list of dark, psychedelic and romantic songs- in my taste at least. my personal favorite at the moment is track #3, it sounds like a group of black cats purring over dub reggae, drinking magic mint tea while stretching on top of a vw van.

my weekend was filled with music, music and more music. friday night was the much anticipated local natives show. i think the crowd knew all the words to every song. it was so wonderful to see atlanta so fully engaged with their performance. they pretty much made my evening, and my year has been complete.

saturday, donnis told me he was in town doing a show at (wait for it...) the masquerade. turns out, he just went on tour with matt & kim and i couldn't turn down a free show. it's been a while since i've seen him perform and he did so great. matt & kim put on an killer dance party that i got to watch from backstage.

i'll also be spending two days in omaha this weekend. the slowdown is a really nice music venue out there and it looks like the avi buffalo are playing. i dig it!

i'm really excited about this friday night because local natives are coming back to atlanta. i had planned on seeing them months before their last date in town. i caught them for a second at their in-store as they were packing up, said hello and took a quick photograph. when i got to the masquerade that night, they were sold out. i was really bummed out. this time, i purchased my ticket in advanced. they're playing in heaven which i'm kind of disappointed about because its a lot less intimate than hell. that last sentence sounded funny.

after this friday, i think my year will be complete.

halloween is my favorite holiday of all time! for the past two years, i dressed as lydia deetz. i decided my main costume this year would be the dark version of minnie mouse. my sister and i went down to the historic oakland cemetery to do some halloween portraits. they came out exactly like i wished. view my session here.

i assisted my sister on a sunday afternoon excursion with lizzy and dusty. its been a while since i actually used my camera for an entire day so this was a real treat. they were easy going as usual which made it a piece of cake. we started at the nolan house in bostwick (where we eventually got booted out of for the first time!) and then finished up in downtown madison. view their session here.

i haven't been using any film or traveling as much as i would like to. october rushed itself in, and i keep forgetting. so far this month is looking good in the music sector- exactly what the doctor ordered. the warpaint/xx show happened yesterday, which i felt might have taken an eternity to arrive. next friday, local natives will be back in town and this time i'll make sure to be there.

i'm currently looking into some dates for a winter vacation in nyc. since i'm no longer eligible to fly stand-by with airtran, i have to start planning ahead (rats to getting older) i'm not really great at it either. i considered doing november but nothing struck the match. i just saw that the radio dept are going to play at the bowery ballroom on december 1st. peter hook presents unknown pleasures will also be a few days after at webster hall, which could be kind of interesting.

i know that i'm a little late on this one, but september is better breakfast month. i'm not much of a breakfast person, but i've learned that a little breakfast goes a long way in my line of work. today i've replaced my fresh vegetables and orange juice for a cup of coffee and a blueberry bagel. i haven't gone grocery shopping so that is my excuse. what are you having for breakfast?

currently playing warpaint's new single, "undertow" over and over. jenny lee's melodic bass and their voices intertwining resonates under my skin. feelings of fury and loneliness-- i really cannot deny the power that warpaint has over me. the exquisite corpse ep was enough to knock me off the floor, i can't imagine what the fool will do.

on august 31st, my little cousin darion turned nine years old. and on that very same day, he left our world. the past few days have been a whirlwind of emotions. but through out the tears, memories and laughter that we shared with his family, we were so touched. this little man was a soldier and battled cancer like a one man army for two years- all with a smile on his face. i believe that he is now at peace in his sadness shield that keeps all of the sadness out. where the wild things are. running wild and free without a care. and most importantly.. in good health.

i did a little sunday dinner at waikikie hawaiian bbq on briarcliff, not too far from where i work. i had the waikikie combo which consists of bbq beef and short ribs, and chicken with two scoops of steamed rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. what else than a mango drink to accompany this delicious meal?

i went to a show at 529 on a monday night last month for future islands. ear pwr just got done playing and i was quite amused. we stood around for what would be "kid stuff" setting up for their set. i seriously did not know what to expect as a girl started passing out 3d glasses into the crowd. needless to say, i was very very impressed. my best description of their set was happy go lucky yacht rock dance party sprinkled with bass, glow sticks, balloons and melodic vocals.

i'd book them for my future wedding.

i've never had restaurant pho anywhere outside of an actual pho/thai joint. but the oxtail pho at soundtable was so good! who would have thought? we had the duck pho special ordered in the photograph above, but i'm a fan of the aforementioned. the serving is a small portion, but comes with a good amount of cilantro to make me happy. it also comes with a side of sriracha and soy sauce, so i don't get to do my fun five minutes of dressing up the pho. the glass noodles are probably the best i've ever had though. if i dance while i eat, its an indication that the food is really good. and so i did.

might i add this little slice of life- the sweet potato cheesecake from the sweet auburn bread company. oh my stars. i'm going for dinner tonight to treat my friend for her birthday. a piece of this is a the perfect excuse for my overdue revisit.

back in january, my childhood friend monica needed some help planning her son's first birthday party. she wanted it to be themed from maurice sendak's "where the wild things are." we went the d.i.y route and created everything mostly from scratch.

this centerpiece was found at hobby lobby and reminded us of the fort they built in the movie. the pine cones were left over from winter decorations.

the vines were handmade from party streamers, tissue papers and a glue gun.my little brother drew the entire picture free handed with pastel chalk on packing paper. we added the christmas bulbs for our source of light.

monica and i made a great team!

i filled each bag with fruit snacks, caramel popcorn with cinnamon toast crunch, home made golden sugar cookies in the shape of a crown, a compass, hershey kisses and swiss miss hot chocolate with marshmellows! i also hand made thank you notes. i drew each one and water colored them individually.

party planning is one of many things i enjoy doing :)
this was a blast.

as i was getting ready for indie fest, i grabbed my tabbee sign from closet storage in hopes of getting some really good mugshots. i started this portrait series called "guilty pleasures" back in september of last year. read the post here. i never got around to getting participants and the sign started to collect dust. i thought indie fest would be a great opportunity to start it all over again. i loved these so much.

i'm gonna keep this going hopefully at more events and at random. i plan on keeping this kit on me at all times, so look out for me!

while in san francisco, i stayed at the hotel whitcomb right off of market street. this historic hotel once served as san francisco's city hall for a few years when the city was left in ruins from an earthquake in 1906. i loved the dark and historic grandeur architecture of this building. conveniently, there was a starbucks in the lobby that had really delicious paninis too. my favorite was the roma tomato and mozzarella panini. these savory bites, along with crime television kept me company in my cozy bed. mmm, so delish.

these pair of nudies are about three years old, and this is it in it's natural state of normal wear and tear. i patched up the backside so that i could wear it again. unfortunately, i can't in this weather. but i can't wait for the day that the weather permits for me to be outside with just this and a tee shirt.
